LONDON (Suaramedia) Legenda hidup pop dunia Michael Jackson dikabarkan telah memeluk agama Islam. Setelah melepas status sebagai pemeluk Saksi Jehovah, Michael Jackson berganti nama menjadi Mikaeel Jackson.

Menurut koran Inggris The Sun, Jacko -nama beken Jackson- mengucapkan dua kalimat syahadat di rumah sahabatnya yang juga komposer album terlaris Thriller, Steve Porcaro, di Los Angeles dan dihadiri seorang penyanyi ternama, Yosef Islam – dulunya bernama Cat Steven sebelum masuk Islam. Dalam momen religius tersebut, Jacko duduk di lantai dengan menggunakan topi kecil berwarna hitam dan dipandu seorang imam. Kabar menghebohkan datang dari si King of Pop Michael Jackson. Penyanyi yang akrab disapa Jacko itu disebut-sebut telah memeluk agama Islam.
Jacko memeluk Islam dengan mengucapkan dua kalimat syahadat di rumah temannya di Los Angeles, Amerika Serikat. Nama Jacko pun berubah menjadi Mikaeel.

"Mikaeel adalah nama salah satu malaikat dalam Islam," ujar seorang sumber. Jacko sebenarnya sempat ditawari nama Mustafa, namun ditolaknya .

Saat mengucapkan dua kalimat syahadat, Jacko duduk di lantai dengan mengenakan topi kecil. Momen tersebut berlangsung sangat khidmat.

Jacko memutuskan masuk Islam setelah ia mendengarkan pengalaman produser dan penulis albumnya. Kedua orang tersebut meyakinkan pelantun 'Ben' itu, bahwa setelah menjadi muslim hidup mereka lebih baik.

"Seorang imam pun kemudian dipanggil dari sebuah masjid untuk menuntun Micahel membaca dua kalimat syahadat," lanjut si sumber.

Setelah memeluk Islam, Jacko dikabarkan terbang ke Mekkah.

Yang peliknya, kalau Michael ni benar2 Islam, kenapa dia tidak membuat pengakuan terbuka tentang penghijrahan agamanya ye? Sejauh ni, yang war-warkan keislaman dia hanyalah pihak wartawan, media dan rakan2nya saja. Tapi peminat2nya di seluruh dunia masih belum mendengar penjelasan dan ucapan dari mulut Raja Pop ini sendiri...

Kalo dia dikebumikan secara Christian, ni mesti atas kehendak keluarga dia. Keluarga dia kan JV (Jehovah Witness). 

Tapi kalau MJ benar2 dah peluk Islam, tanggungjawab untuk uruskan & kebumikan jenazahnya sekarang di dalam tanggungjawab abang dia Jermaine Jackson, yang memang dah benar2 Islam dan bangga dirinya adalah seorang Muslim.

Oh memorial service may not be a religious service. It is just a service where there's a gathering and family/relatives/friends says their goodbyes to Michael. It is a religious service if this is done in a church. Memorial service can be done in a hall, a home, at the cemetery, kira anywhere la. Also that reverend they are referring to could be Reverend Jesse Jackson who I believe is a very close family friend.

I am kinda musykil when I saw jenazah MJ mcm dikapankan dgn kain putih. Tu yg makes me believe that MJ was Muslim. Anyway, tunggu ajalah nanti his funeral.

June 29/06/2009: According to various blogs on the Internet, the CNN
reported, that the Jackson family is meeting with an imam to make the
funeral arrangements for the jenazah (Muslim funeral prayer) for
Michael Jackson.  This was announced by Wolf Blitzer in 'The Situation
Room' an exclusive show on the CNN.

Blitzer appeared to have mentioned about the Jackson family talking to
an Imam in Los Angeles (apparently from the Masjid where Jermain
Jackson goes to pray) to officiate in the 'Jenazah' prayer of Michael.

Controversy is raging on the internet over the number of days a Muslim
is to be buried, which is 3 days after the death. However, with
Michael Jackson this might be different.

In the meantime, Imam Siraj Wahhaj, the Amir of the Muslim Alliance in
North America and one of the most prominent imams in the United
States, said he wanted to be at the 'Jenazah' prayer of Michael
Jackson . Imam Siraj sends his condolences to the family of Michael
Jackson and well wishes to his family, wrote the same blog that told
the story of the Wolf Blitzer saying an imam is being sought to do
