Nissa prasan nowadays ada banyak investment plans be it from banking side or insurance plans..eg. aviva-dbs, prudential, ntuc,AIA,schroeder & stuffs.. brapa ramai diantara kita disini actually ada investment plans? Is it a necessity or juz to play safe in case of emergency in old days? Any reccomendations? what to watch out when choosing any of the plans?

I do hv investments too thru bank.. Standard Chartered.. cash money.. plan hmm.. dah lupa.. but rugi 2k in 1 year.. so decided to sell off the shares last month only.. invested 20k... dapat cuma 19k saja.. rugilah. Sad

Lastly.. shares using my CPF moneys... invest 30k with DBS.. belum tau lagi... bought the SWING 5.0/1 which is for 5 yrs plan.

Anissa.. me too tak pandai tengok pergerakan turun naik saham.. itu yg kurang confident.

Aura -> Islamic investment yang you maksudkan, is it Takaful (HSBC)??

NurHab invest in Takaful funds using CPF. Bought it 2 years back.. Looking at the statement every year, it has been losing money ah. Think I dah lose around $4k of CPF. Thought of terminating and use the existing CPF to buy house je...

Hi.. IMHO you all shud try investing in Gold - open up a Gold Savings account ke.. buy bullion gold ke..

Insya'allah will get you returns...  Harga barang.. termasuk gold akan sentiasa naik dalam jangka masa panjang.. like more than 1-2 years..

E.g. last year 5 gms about $90.. now worth $110

Investment in companies a bit more risky.. pasal naik turun company tu depends on the people running the company.. and kita tak kenal pun diorang.. crook ke.. smart ke..

I'm just curious.. if we invest our money in an insurance saving plan which promises maybe in 20 yrs, we'll get a lump sum of money of about $60000(including interest over the whole period), can we use that money? Is dividend considered riba'? What's the difference between dividend and interest?

Dividend tu.. hasil keuntungan.. bukan riba.

Interest - ada yang di anggap riba' - bila kita menerima duit lebih dari yang kita pinjamkan.. one very clear e.g. is loan sharks.. itu clear cut riba.

dalam dividend - duit tu bukan kita pinjam kan.. tapi kita laburkan.

Wallahualam.

Insurance investment is a big con. Just think about it. You pay the premium every month and collect a lump sum of let's say $100 000 in 25 years time. But lets face it, the value of money depreciates over time. 25 years later, that $100 000 is not going to hold the same value as it does now.
A simple case : 20 years ago, 30 cents will buy you a lot of goods at the market. Now 30 cents get you nowhere.

Insurance is the biggest con in the industry and they make even more profits than the banks. They have actuaries working there who had worked out the calculations and their biggest gain is when policies lapse. Any type of investment where you have to wait many years to get your returns will shortchange you in the long run. And one more thing, how sure are we that particular investment or insurance company will last 25 years?

At least by using insurance... u r secured more or less. Yr medical expenses are covered (depending what sort of plan u choose)

At least by having an insurance..  to discipline yrself to make saving.

Oh yes, you are right, as a form of general saving or to help cover medical expenses, insurance is ok. But I'm really discussing insurance as a form of investment here where marginal returns are concerned. We're talking profits here and insurance does not get us far in this situation. How else in the world does many chinese in Singapore afford their posh condos and luxurious Merc? They invest rightly. And in Singapore, property and stocks are still the way to go.
