eg: The research team was thrilled when they successfully hatched some 300-year-old crustacean eggs found in a state of diapause at the bottom of a local pond.

Boleh tak replace the word with inertia?

eg : Qurnia is in a constant state of inertia (diapause) as she loves to sleep so much and hibernate herself.

i think in this case, diapause can't be substituted sebab diapause is an enforced state.

inertia

a property of matter by which it remains at rest or in uniform motion in the same straight line unless acted upon by some external force

an analogous property of other physical quantities (as electricity)

indisposition to motion, exertion, or change
